In Revelation 6:9-11 it's written "how long … until you judge the inhabitants of the earth and avenge our blood?" The reply? Wait a little longer until the same number as y'all have been killed. In other words, there were a set number of people who had been killed who had been working for God, and after the fifth seal of the scroll was opened, it "reset" and those under the altar were told to wait until the same number as them had been killed.

And Jesus said, "Fill up, then, the measure of the sin of your forefathers! You snakes! You brood of vipers! How will you escape being condemned to hell? Therefore I am sending you prophets and wise men and teachers. Some of them you will kill and crucify; others you will flog in your synagogues and pursue from town to town. And so upon you will come all the righteous blood that has been shed on earth…"
