One of these days I’m going to cut you into little pieces!
But suppose that servant is wicked and says to himself, ‘My master is staying away a long time,’ and he then begins to beat his fellow servants and to eat and drink with drunkards.
The master of that servant will come on a day when he does not expect him and at an hour he is not aware of. He will cut him to pieces and assign him a place with the hypocrites, where there will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.
Although Fearless is my favorite song on Meddle, One of These Days has an interesting message. The only line in the song actually. The verse is very difficult to understand, and even after I’d listened to the album many times I still did not know the whole line, I only understood the first few words. I think I learned the whole line while listening to an interview of Roger Waters. But, I did not learn the context.
However, regardless of what inspired Pink Floyd to write those lyrics, I will share a bit from the Bible.
Actually the teaching I have in mind is far bigger than what I have time for right now, and far bigger than this example, so please bear with me as I try to keep to the subject.
The point I will try to prove, and hope is coming to light in the quotes above, is that the power-drunk and unrepentant liars will be cut into pieces. The big question here is, what will cut them to pieces? Swords? Knives? Razors? Lasers?
Ok, maybe you’re asking yourself, “what does this have to do with being cut into little pieces?” I’m glad you asked. Not only do we have the quotation above, featured from one of Jesus’ parables, but turn to Hebrews 4:12 where you’ll find this, “For the word of God is living and active. Sharper than any double-edged sword, it penetrates even to dividing soul and spirit, joints and marrow; it judges the thoughts and attitudes of the heart.”
I am not sure if the writer really knew how accurate he was, or if he was just using figures of speech. In any case, I think it provides another accurate depiction of what our leaders and the awful people have to look forward to, unless they repent and work overtime to undo the damage they've done.
I have a feeling I need not provide extensive examples of leaders (politicians, political appointees, industry, and religious) lying to us. Many people are familiar with the disaster that was the Vietnam war. Even though leaders knew they were losing and there was no way to win, they kept on telling U.S. citizens of progress and sent many more thousands of citizens to their deaths while burning mountains of money to do so. Even more people raged when Robert McNamara admitted as much in his book about that period of history when he “served” in the White House.
So it should come as no surprise — thanks to http://WikiLeaks.org — that leaders in the U.S. and Mexico continue to say things behind our backs which DO NOT match what they say in public. US has lost faith in Mexico's ability to win drugs war, WikiLeaks cables show
Another example of the sick minds at work is shown in this recent AP piece, “AP IMPACT: Cartel arrests did not curb drug trade.” They trumpet “success” after “success” at dealing “crushing blows.” Yet, they are also behind the terror of statistics like “400% rise in heroin use.” Which is it? Massive success or massive setback? Well, considering they are hypocrites, it’s both.
And the more you investigate the specific drugs which are outlawed, the more you will burn with anger that the lying “Drug Free” organizations and lying politicians (and their flunky agencies) spread so many lies, shame and hatred.
Ok, perhaps you’re still thinking “what does this have to do with being cut into little pieces?” I’m glad you asked. :-) Not only will the truth of what Jesus said cut them up, but their own words will. The words — the lies — they spoke from their own mouths will chop them up! The misleading statements and twisted facts from their own mouths will deal them blow after blow. Their uncleanness will finally be seen by all.
The best thing we can do, as Christians, is to pray they repent, and bear the fruits of repentance (i.e. working to undo the damage of Drug Prohibition). Because unless they do so, it will be just like you can hear in that Pink Floyd song, “One of these days I’m going to cut you into little pieces!”
One last note. I know some people are probably thinking, “I don’t drink alcohol, there’s no way I can be drunk.” I say you’re not understanding the full gravity of what Jesus said. Drug Warriors and many politicians, industrial leaders, and religious leaders, are drunk off their power. They may pass a breathalyzer test for alcohol, but they do not pass the Golden Rule test.
This is very easily seen in many ramifications of Drug Prohibition. The first thing is it escalated to Drug War. It’s continued to spiral out of control and now we’re at the point where they not only spit on God and the 10 Commandments, but they also show absolutely no respect for the secular Founding Documents, namely the Constitution. They love their warrantless wiretaps. They love their warrantless GPS tracking. They love their other above-the-law abuses of power. They love all the best seats and to be greeted in the marketplaces… [Matthew 23:6-7, Mark 12:38-40, Luke 20:46-47] They are drunk.
