You belong to your father, the devil, and you want to carry out your father's desire. He was a murderer from the beginning, not holding to the truth, for there is no truth in him. When he lies, he speaks his native language, for he is a liar and the father of lies.
One thing I have trouble understanding is that we live in a country where one is supposedly innocent until proven guilty. And the U.S. kind-of, used-to, have a reputation for being generous and helpful; and to an extent we try to hold on to that ideal. Although we seem to be doing our best to whip up anger against us now via rampant corporate greed and wars all over the place.
But when I read comments on web pages where drug policy reform is being discussed, many citizens (or at least people posing as U.S. citizens) have a crazy bloodlust. I pointed this out a while ago in the case of Ms. Orobator.
Many times since then I've read murderous comments from various citizens who wished the U.S. was like China, which summarily executes drug users. I don't doubt for one moment many of the commenters consider themselves Christian, but they also laud various countries ruled by "Islamic Law" which seems to do similarly. They cheer countries like Iran which, from what I hear, cuts the heads off drug users.
Now I gotta tell ya, I really doubt Jesus is sitting up in Heaven saying, "I sure wish the United States of America would be more like the Muslims, chopping up those drug users." Do you really think Jesus is saying that?
Do you think Jesus is saying to God, "Hey God why aren't the Christians more like the Muslims?! Anyway, isn't it great the U.N. Weapons of Mass Destruction are trashing everyone's civil rights and causing the planet to be ruined with war machines and herbicides, and it sure is great the United States has the most number of prisoners in the world because of some plants you made. But don't you think they should just put those people in the gas chamber?
"I mean, there are so many of them! How is the U.S. going to last another year, considering they're in Colombia and ruining it to make coca extinct, they're in Afghanistan to make poppies and marijuana extinct, it sounds like they want to send more soldiers to die in Mexico, and they have DEA offices in every country too. If they build more prisons, who will pay for them?"
Um, no. Personally I do not think Jesus is saying that.
But I don't get that sense when I read some people on the Internet. They have murder on the brain. In addition, they are either grossly misinformed about drugs, or are the ones who are eagerly spreading lies about drugs. I wonder if they've read the quote from Jesus featured above.
They will get their reward, just what they've been calling for.
