Forty years ago yesterday (October 27, 1970), the "Controlled Substances Act" was passed by Congress.
I saw this someplace a few weeks ago, but was recently reminded of it by the "This Week in History" feature at StopTheDrugWar.org.
Forty years of failure.
Forty years of outlandishly unscientific classifications.
Forty years of ignorant blockading of access to useful plants.
Forty years of needlessly shaming people for trumped-up offenses.
Forty years of outrageous spending yielding the opposite stated effects.
Forty years of arresting people and even putting them in prison for invented crimes.
Forty-plus years of shame.
Forty-plus years of evil purporting as good.
