A preoccupation with the future not only prevents us from seeing the present as it is but often prompts us to rearrange the past.

This pretty much describes people and organizations like the Drug Free _______ types; Drug Free America, Drug Free World, Drug Free Universe, etc… Their bloodlust to do the impossible prevents them from seeing the present, since nearly all of their logic rests on false assumptions, like the one about how no one uses drugs now, but you’ll often hear them use other falsehoods as they re-wrote the past. For example the argument about alcohol prohibition, they’ll say stuff like, “well, alcohol prohibition is different, there used to be legal alcohol before prohibition.” But the fact is there used to be legal marijuana, legal heroin, legal amphetamines, etc… And in reality, there are versions of that stuff which is legal now, Prohibitionists are wrong on so many counts.
