Throughout the 1980s, the CIA became more and more involved with fighting the drug trade, but their role became quite convoluted the deeper they sank into the quagmire.
Nothing in the New York Times article, or the research reported on justifies the smashing down of doors, the kidnapping of children from their parents, or shackling mothers while in prison while giving birth. And I wouldn’t be surprised to learn about forced cesarean sections either.

Barack Obama wrote a book. In that book he admitted to using various drugs, namely marijuana and cocaine. Since I haven’t read the book I can’t really say what he admits to or says about them.
This story is kind of ironic since just a few days ago the U.S. Supreme Court ruled on the unconstitutionality of giving teens life sentences for something other than murder.

Teen gets two life terms over cocaine
MOBILE (AP) — A Prichard teenager was sentenced to two concurrent sentences of life-without-parole in prison for dealing crack cocaine in Mobile federal court.
Corey Lamar Andrews, 19, was convicted by a federal court jurty on a crack conspiracy charge last November and was sentenced on Friday. He also will have to forfeit $120,000 under federal drug laws.
"That was the money we thought he made as a drug dealer," said Assistant U.S. Attorney Deborah Griffin. "The government alleged he got crack cocaine from Houston and distributed it in the Mobile area. He wasn't a street dealer. He was a distributor."
